Everyone on KRML has an independent approach to the selection of their music, and that's what jazz is, after all...a place where we can be creative, and hopefully the selections that resonate with us also resonate with you. But they won't always be in sync with what you would prefer, and we want to know that, so we can find out more about what kind of jazz is YOUR kind of jazz!

Some of the "theme" shows on KRML indicate a specific and narrower view of the music. That's true especially with my "Let's Dance!" big band dance party, where I select ONLY big bands, not trios or quartets and other small groups. That's because the popular music of the 1940's and early 50's featured swing styles of the big bands -- groups with as many as 25 or more musicians where excellent sectional work was featured. In those days, there were hundreds of big bands, some extremely famous world-wide and others well known in their territory. However, I also play a lot of current big bands who are featuring their own take on the popular music of decades ago, much of which has become a standard part of our menu today and maybe forever.

Should I play a broader selection on "Let's Dance!" each week? Am I being too much of a purist in avoiding the smaller groups? Give me your thoughts and I'll try to take a continued fresh view of this music that is meant to take listeners on a trip down memory lane into those almost forgotten ballrooms of years ago.
